As a final project for a geospatial databases course at UW-Madison, my project partner and I designed and implemented a database that could be utilized to learn about bird sightings as they relate to climate in Wisconsin. Since we utilized data from eBird, a citizen science repository for bird data, we had a massive amount of data to work through, and given the limited amount of time and technical resources for this project, we limited our focus to Dane County, Wisconsin. We also utilized climate data from the Midwest Regional Climate Center (MRCC), since we wanted our database to allow people to understand how changes in climate might impact bird detections and migratory patterns over time. QGIS and PostGIS were used to create maps based on queries of the database we created. Click on the photo below to see our full final report.
